“Beast was not my lover.  He was my enemy. This was not a love story, this was a hate story.” ~Frankie

Mary Catherine Gebhard just ruined me with her latest dark mafia romance! Beast: A Hate Story is the beginning of a tale that is so sordid and wicked to the point where I second guessed myself multiple times while reading it!  At the same time I was riveted, enraptured and ensnared because I could not turn my eyes away from my kindle!

Let me start by saying that I have read a LOT of dark romance from some of the most notable Queens of the genre out there!!! Regardless, Beast: A Hate Story, The Beginning has climbed its way into the top of my list of dark romances.  Period!

It is utterly fascinating and beguiling. This is my kind of dark romance, because it was stunning in its delivery and downright sinful.   Beast: A Hate Story, The Beginning is so deliciously twisted that it hits all the right spots for any dark-romance lover!

Anteros a*k*a “Beast” is a drop-dead gorgeous, powerful mafia king  who shows up on the doorstep of an unsuspecting family to collect a debt or dole out punishment if he is not paid in full.  Instead of collecting payment, he ends up laden with another commitment in the form of the debtor’s beautiful, defiant and fiery daughter Frankie who exchanges her life so that her father may live.

I can not tell a lie: there are several moments in this novel that made me cringe! Quite frankly I feel that it is  necessary to provide a trigger warning for several of the scenes in this novel so please take note because this book is not for everyone.  I had to take a moment to relax after several pivotal scenes in this book because I was angry or incredulous.

Please take note of the initial quote mentioned in this review because it is EVERYTHING when it comes to Frankie and Beast and the “romance” that ensues as a result of their so-called love affair.  I wanted to root for this couple *so hard* and at several  points I did, especially since  the author excelled at making  me feel Frankie’s confusion as she eventually succumbed to her undeniable attraction to Beast.

What truly blew me away about this book was the ending!!!!! I was so caught off guard! Talk about a surprising twist!!! I am ready and waiting for part II, and I hope that Mary Catherine Gebhard brings it ON with the conclusion to this series!!

I highly recommend Beast: A Hate Story, The Beginning to any dark romance lover that can handle all that comes with it…

So READ it…if you dare!!!

That is this Naughty Girl’s final word.

Overall: 5/ 5 stars for this strong beauty and her sexy beast!!!

Heat: 🔥🔥🔥🔥1/2 / 5 flames!

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairy tale.

I thought selling myself to a mafia boss was noble. So what if they called him the Beast? I grew up in rags, and he would lift me to riches. All I had to do was give him my soul.

He was punishing. Insatiable. Captivating. Nothing like I expected him to be. Each day my reality blurred, leaving me wondering if I was slave or princess.

The longer I stayed, the more I lost myself to him. Even after every cruelty the Beast visited upon me, I longed for his touch. Even after every savage word he spoke, I begged for his lips. I thought the worst thing he could take was my body. I was too naïve to guard my heart.

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairy tale.

Now I know better than to speak of happily ever afters.

Beast is the first book in the Hate Story duet. About what it means to fall in love with the person who has absolutely destroyed you, it contains disturbing and graphic situations that may be a trigger for some.
