“My makeup is revenge.  Yours is forgiveness. You’re better than me.  I don’t deserve you, But I’m going to take you anyway.” ~Vicious

Words simply cannot express how serious I am about Vicious, L.J. Shen’s latest contemporary romance.  All I can say is this:  She.Blew.Me.Away. with this story about two people who walk the thin line between love and hate so beautifully and profoundly that they were never able to let go of each other in spite of distance and time.

Vicious lit a smoldering, palpable flame deep inside of my being that will never be extinguished. L.J.Shen has earned herself a Grade-A stalker, because after reading Vicious I am so eager for her words that I will haunt every single one of her releases for the remainder of her career.

Usually, I address the subject matter of the story in my reviews, but I am not going to do that here. The synopsis is there for your perusal.  Just know this: Vicious was so damn good that all I want to talk about is how powerful it is and how deeply it affected me.

When I started this novel I was dumbfounded…straight up stupefied about Baron Spencer Jr. a*k*a “Vicious.”  He is handsome and wealthy in the extreme, and he reigns supreme in the high school hierarchy as a celebrated athlete and a notorious womanizer.  He has earned the nickname “Vicious” for a very good reason.  Over time, he grows even colder; as an attorney and owner of a multi-million dollar franchise,  he is extremely ruthless and just plain cruel.  Case and point:

I was left wondering: “What in the HELL happened to this man to make him this way?”

And God Almighty…when the reason for his behavior is revealed, I literally burst into tears.  That is not an exaggeration.

Trust me when I say that when it comes to Vicious and his feelings for Emelia LeBlanc, all is not what it seems.

Never in my life have I read a novel where the hero and the heroine despise each other so much from the onset of the book.   Here is a little taste to wet your palette for this incredible work of L.J. Shen’s literary art:

“Never in a million years would I have taken her out. She wasn’t worth the trouble. No girl was, especially not her. Still, she was mine to play with.” ~Vicious

“I hated him so much that it hurt to breathe when I looked at him.” ~Emelia

“I was missing a few pieces. A few chips I needed in order to be able to love like a normal person does. That’s why I liked breaking things, and why I especially enjoyed breaking Emelia…” ~Vicious

“This is what he did to me, Vicious.  He broke me. Again and again and again. I tried to stay away, but every time he came for me, I caved.” ~Emelia

This is not the half of it.  My heart clenches and stutters inside of my chest just thinking about the journey that Vicious and Emelia experience as they toggle back and forth between the highs associated with love and the lows that come along with war.

This is a novel about a high school love that went horribly wrong due to circumstances that Emelia and Vicious were powerless to overcome. It is about the absolute power of one over another…the “rich kid” vs. the “help” and the dynamic that ensues because of one party’s abuse of said power.

On the other hand, Vicious explores the intensity and endurance of a love that was denied but ultimately rediscovered after percolating for ten years.

More importantly, this a redemption novel at its finest.  The journey that these two experience will leave your emotions in an uproar, and that is a very good thing!

It simply does not get better than this!!!!

Vicious made me hate both of these characters at the same time that I wept for them.  I loved them, but I hated them too.  This is the ultimate testament to L.J. Shen as an author, because these characters are so flawed, yet so lovable.

This is my first experience with this author’s work, but I will be back again and again, because L.J. Shen unleashed a level of brilliance with Vicious that I have never experienced before. It will stun you at the same time that it captivates and overwhelms you.

Quite frankly, if you do not read this book you are depriving yourself of what will surely be one of the best reads of 2017!!!  So read it!!!

That is this Naughty Girl’s final word.

Overall: 5 out of 5 incredible stars!

Heat: Prepare Yo Self!!! *snickers*

They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.

The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.

He is a brilliant lawyer.

A skilled criminal.

A beautiful liar.

A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.

Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.

She is a starving artist.

Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.

Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.

She paid the price.

Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.

That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.

So she hates me. Big fucking deal.

She better get used to me.

“You’re pissing me off,” she said quietly, her eyes still searching my face.

“And that’s turning me on,” I retorted, my voice flat. “So you might wanna tone down the hate glares if you don’t wanna find yourself being fucked on this desk with the blinds still open.”

I was still staring at my screen, working on the merger deal I was eager to get signed before Christmas, but I could see from my peripheral that she had paled. I liked how—once again—I’d gotten under her skin. Quickly.

“You’re disgusting,” she muttered, still staring at me—but not in a way that suggested she was appalled.

I cracked my neck, opening my browser and checking the stocks on the screen, skimming through the greens and the reds. “That may well be, but I’m balls deep in your fucking head, Help, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Her eyes glittered with rage, and fuck, I was so hard, and fuck, she was so beautiful. This was so on. I was going to fuck Dean’s ex-girlfriend, use her for my personal needs, and toss her away when I was done.

And after choosing the wrong guy, there was no doubt in my mind, she deserved it too.

“You just gave Floyd a lecture about the inter-office fraternization policy. No mixing business and pleasure.” She leaned forward. Her elbow touched my finger accidentally, and she jerked it away.

I met her halfway, erasing the space between us across the desk. “Correction—guys like Floyd won’t give you pleasure. Men like me would. Besides, the man likes Arrow,” I drawled, as if this alone was a reason to fire him.

To me, it was.

“You know what your problem is, Vicious? You still haven’t decided if you hate me or like me. That’s why you act like this every time I’m around other men.” There wasn’t a trace of embarrassment in her voice. She owned up to this.

What she didn’t know was that I knew exactly how I felt about her.

I hated her, but was attracted to her. It was really that simple.

“You know what I feel right now, Ms. LeBlanc? I feel like you need to pack a fucking bag and start making the necessary arrangements. You’re coming with me to California, whether you like it or not.”
