Review: Hooked

“Before meeting her, I couldn’t have put into words exactly what I wanted in a woman. I can now, though. I want her.” ~Jake

I rarely swear in my reviews, but Holy !!!!! #PrepareYoSelf

Brenda Rothert just *slayed* me and captured a HUGE piece of my heart with Hooked, her latest contemporary romantic release. Anyone who wants to experience the personification of a fairy tale should jump on this novel STAT.

Jake Birch is the handsome, promiscuous NHL player who is living large and enjoying all of the benefits that come along with his status as a professional athlete at the pinnacle of his career. Enter Miranda, a career-driven, focused young woman who knocks Jake right off of his feet in spite of the fact that she is the hotel maid who is tasked with making his every wish and desire come true as she services his room.

Hooked made me nearly roll out of my seat due to the intensity of Brenda Rothert’s words and the fire that erupted within me as I read Miranda and Jake’s powerful story of redemption and triumph! Right now I am jubilant, exceedingly happy and flat out ecstatic as I contemplate Jake and Miranda’s epic tale of romance.

Let’s talk about heroines because Miranda is the focal point of this novel and she is EVERYTHING. She is strong, courageous, determined and ambitious in a manner that few heroines in romance novels are able to achieve. She works two jobs and is struggling to work her way through college.

That alone is inspirational.

Add to that her passion, diligence, determination and outright tenacity and the result is something truly admirable and memorable in a way that I have not experienced in a long time. Yes, I have a girl crush on this character, and I am not ashamed to admit it. She is open, she is real and she makes her feelings known…but how will the playboy that she is paid to serve react to her, especially when he is so used to getting what and who he wants?

When it comes to Jake, please do not let my last statement fool you because there is so much more to his character than meets the eye. YES, he is attractive, successful and confident. He initially comes across as a character that you love to hate, especially because of his arrogance and the “relationship” with his boss’ daughter Hailey that he is forced to hide. He has made a deal with the devil that controls his career and his arrangement plays an integral role in the events that take place in Miranda and Jake’s relationship.

Even so, there is hope because when Jake emotionally exposes himself to Miranda and truly opens his heart to the unassuming, feisty maid who takes care of his room the possibilities of everlasting love are magnificent.

“Miranda is the light, helping me find strength I never knew I had.”~ Jake

 His sentiments are wholeheartedly returned.

“It’s OK to fall in love with me Jake. I’ll take you and love you back just the way that you are.” ~Miranda

I sighed because of this book. I also gasped and swooned and shook my head in wonder because this author blew it out of the box with this one!!!!

***Side-note: *** Let the record show that I got into such an emotional tizzy while I was reading Hooked that I accidentally dropped my Ipad and cracked it (if picture evidence is required, please let me know because I will be happy to send it). I was so enraged that I lost my sense of reason. This is just additional proof that this book is the s**t.

Yes, I am hooked on Hooked and I have no shame about admitting it.

I guess that I should not bother to say that you should “read it.” It should be obvious that I highly recommend this novel at this point.

So let me know if you read it and love it, ok?

That is this bookworm’s final word.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ + 1/2 ⭐️S

Heat: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 + 1/2 🔥S

From the author of the On the Line and Fire on Ice hockey romance series comes a sultry novel featuring a brooding NHL player who’s hell on skates—and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act.

Miranda: Even though I’m broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I’m trying to make the best of it. Meanwhile, Jake Birch, hockey’s hottest bad boy, lives in a luxury hotel in downtown Chicago—and still complains about every little thing in his penthouse. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I’m not flirting back . . . at least, I’m trying not to. Did I mention that he’s hockey’s hottest bad boy?

Jake: I’ve met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice—a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it’s like to feel again. But I’m being forced to date my team owner’s daughter to keep my job, so I can’t be caught with Miranda. Still, we’re getting closer—until Miranda finds out about my “girlfriend.” And that’s not the only secret I’ve been keeping. But Miranda’s the one I want . . . even if she doesn’t believe me.

Brenda Rothert is an Illinois native who was a print journalist for nine years. She made the jump from fact to fiction in 2013 and never looked back.
