My hands are literally shaking as I write this review.
A few minutes ago I finished reading Dori Lavelle’s Midnight Scent, the first in what I will be multiple installments in her “Amour Toxique” series.
This book had my emotions in a tizzy from the prologue. I was shackled, locked up in this book’s web until I consumed every last word.
I am not kidding; my mouth dropped open in shock at about 5% into the book.
I sat there wondering “what the hell have you gotten yourself into?”
Ivy Hollifield is a former model who gives up the limelight in order to pursue an interior design degree at a reclusive university in Florida. When she moves into her dorm room she discovers a set of romantic, erotic love letters hidden under her mattress.
These letters move and “stimulate” her in ways that she has not been touched before; she is enamored with the content and swept away by the passion and desire that emanates from the author’s words.
The only problem is that the man who wrote the letters, Judson Devereaux is behind bars. 😱
He is a former art-history professor who currently awaits trial for murdering the lover of the woman whom his letters were addressed to!
Well my, my, my…
What’s a girl to do?
50% in and I was undone.
75% into the story I was worried, confused and emotionally discombobulated.
Midnight Scent’s mind-blowing, colossal effect on my thought process only got more intense from there.
At the end of it all I am left stunned as I rehash the events of the last page!!
I am so surprised!
Never saw it coming!!!
Eager for more but partially afraid of where this road will lead me.
This book is suspenseful and it is thrilling.
That is a ridiculous understatement.
Right now I am caught up.
Those are just a few of the adjectives that describe my feelings surrounding this book.
However, it is the chilling portrayal of the mystery that surrounds the heart of this story that kept me fascinated.
Guess what “Amour Toxique” means in French?
Let that marinate for a moment.
Is Judson truly guilty of murder?
What other secrets are destined to be exposed, particularly the events that occur in the prologue?
What role, if any does Judson’s past play in his pursuit of Ivy?
I have so many questions!!
I have no doubt that Midnight Scent will have you just as obsessed with this author and her new series as I am!
Let the record show that I am *head over heels* in love with this book!
That is my final word!
I find the love letters in my new dorm room, left behind by a previous occupant.
They’re meant for someone else, but the words speak to me. They slide off the page and wrap themselves around my body, touching me in places I never knew existed.
I’m falling in love with each word, unable to stop myself.
And I don’t even know his name.
Until they tell me.
His name is Judson Devereux. They say he’s toxic. Falling for him will be a mistake.
I want to believe them. I want to walk away. But the words refuse to be erased from the invisible parts of me.
I’m hooked on the scent of his poison. It’s bad for me. It could kill me. But I’m in too deep.
*This series contains sexual content, dark themes, and violence that could trigger emotional distress in readers. * *Amour Toxique is a serial that unfolds over three volumes.*
Dori Lavelle, is a mother, wife, and a sucker for happy-ever-afters and mint chocolate.
Growing up, Dori read a lot, and when she wasn’t happy with a particular ending, she wrote a different one, just for herself. Before long, she was writing stories when she should have been doing homework. The time has come for her to share the stories she cooks up in her head.
There is a giveaway for a paperback of Dori Lavelle’s Veiled Obsession (His Agenda 1)
