Review: Depths of Salvation

“Everything happened between us so fast, like a match touching gasoline and we were powerless to stop the blaze.” ~Sadie

I honestly was not prepared for the impact that Molly Lee’s new novel Depths of Salvation would have on me.

This book is in the top ten of the many new releases that I have read.

Not in 2016.

I am talking PERIOD.

That is how excited I am about this novel!!!! 😆😆😆

Depths of Salvation earned such a uniquely special place in my heart that I have a significant amount of difficulty processing the highs and the lows that I experienced while consuming this book from start to finish.

In my opinion the subject matter of Depths of Salvation makes this new release stand out from any novel that you will read this year…maybe EVER.

Allow me to explain.

At the heart of the matter is the SS Falconer, a WWII cargo ship and historical relic that is struck by a torpedo and sinks to the bottom of the sea amidst the horrors of a war that changed the political, economic and social landscape of countries around the world.

Enter Sadie Jenkins, a marine preservationist that is hired by the Head of Government to ensure that the ecosystem surrounding the sunken shipwreck is maintained.  Not only does the Falconer provide a life-sustaining source of food for the island, but it also contains hundreds of different species of plant and animal life.  Of utmost importance is the fact that the Falconer also houses newly discovered species of sea grass and purple algae that provide antioxidants and other components that could provide a contribution to the fight against disease, thereby making their potential for medicinal value immeasurable.

Conflict arises when an oil company, Slade Pipelines decides to run a natural gas pipeline directly through the site of the shipwreck rather than go around it in order to ensure a hefty profit.  They are determined to do so regardless of the incredible loss of sea-life and likely medicinal benefits that would be lost along with it. The owner of the company offers Connell Murphy,  his chief expert and most experienced underwater welder twelve million dollars to “get close” to Sadie and gather enough information to have the site declared unfit to be saved.

Thus begins the tale of a budding romance that is built on a foundation of lies, a veritable house of cards that is destined to fall when the stench of betrayal is revealed.

Part of what makes this novel so memorable and personal to me is that I was born and raised in Northwest Florida where the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico, its “fruits of the sea”  and the prevalent concern about environmental issues in Florida’s panhandle reign supreme.  In fact, I have visited multiple museums in the vicinity that feature ancient war-time rarities like air crafts and ships that have been discovered right here in the area, both on land and at sea.

As such, when historical relics like sunken shipwrecks are mentioned *anywhere* my interest is immediately peaked.  When I read the blurb for Depths of Salvation I was automatically obsessed with reading this book, completely overwhelmed with curiosity about such a different concept from that which is typical in the genre.

I questioned how the author would manage to weave such an intricate tapestry incorporating romance and eroticism with a chronicling of WWII history.  Add to that the legal battles that frequently surround environmental conservation and the entities that attempt to thwart those efforts for monetary gain and you come up with something special and rare.

A breath of fresh air.

Honestly, I have to shake my head while I am typing my thoughts because this book blew me away!

This heroine!!!

Sadie Jenkins is a strong, feisty woman who is dedicated to her craft and secure and confident in her professional know-how.  She loves the sea and has sacrificed personal relationships for the sake of her career.  Sadie holds her own with members of the opposite sex who can not help but respect her expertise, physical capability and prowess underwater even if they begrudgingly do so.

Then there is Connell. *Sigh*

He is insanely gorgeous, mysterious and magnetic.  He is a man with a level of diving skill that is unparalleled…until he meets Sadie. 😉

The tats, the hypnotic hazel eyes and sexy smirk are enough to make a woman swoon but there is another side to his attractive nature.  His tragic past and turbulent history make him an enigma.  Connell’s self-depreciating attitude, his immense passion for the sea and his love for his family come together to create a character with the same depth as the ocean in which his dives in.  He is like a perfect storm that captures Sadie within its heart and refuses to let go until the violent sea calms itself and the darkness in the sky turns to light once more.

At this point it is probably obvious that I can not contain myself when it comes to this book. ☺️☺️

There is no doubt that the amount of time and research that the author put into writing this masterpiece is staggering.  Believe me when I say that it paid off. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Molly E. Lee has a new fan.  I think I may even stalk her a little bit. 😍

Depths of Salvation is a true diamond in the rough that is begging to be discovered so that its brilliance can be shared with the world.

The experience of reading this novel should not be missed.  This adventure on and beneath the sea owned me from start to finish and I know that everyone else who reads it will love it just as much as I do.

That is my final word.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Heat: 🔥🔥🔥🔥+ 1/2 stars!!

Sadie Jenkins’ most recent site of preservation is a sunken WWII cargo ship off the coast of the Bahamas. When a giant corporation threatens to blow it up to make way for an underwater gas pipeline, Sadie is forced to prove to the Head of Government the importance and value of her site. And when assistance comes from a bad-boy welder who works for the corporation, she ends up battling not only the people trying to demolish her site, but her heart as well—because its latched on to the one man who can save her ship or destroy it.

Connell Murphey is the best underwater welder this side of the Atlantic and thrives when the stakes are highest. When Slade Industries offers him a dangerous gig with a big pay off, he can’t wait to sign on. When a local marine preservationist gives Slade trouble—her site’s protection would cost him millions to go around it instead of through it—Slade offers Connell the deal of a lifetime: twelve million has his name on it if he gets close to Sadie and testifies to the Head of Government that her site isn’t worth saving. Should be easy money.

That is, until he meets Sadie. She’s a force to be reckoned with and the only woman who has ever been able to not only keep pace with him on a dive but completely surpass him on every level. She’s smart, sexy, and their chemistry is off the charts. The more he gets to know her, the harder he falls but he’s already in too deep with the deal he made with Slade.

When the time comes, will he be able to turn down the money and choose the girl of his dreams, or will too many lies kill his only chance at forever?
