Review: Unstable

Bookwhore DOWN. 🙋 🙋

I was not prepared for the level of fire-red, steaming, flame-boiling hotness that is SE Hall’s most recent release Unstable.

My GAWD.  😍

After finishing this book I am sitting here wondering just where in the hell I can find my own deliciously sexy cowboy.  The hero is  a dirty-talking, possessive, protective alpha man that will make you wistful and downright giddy.

I am willing to bet that if you read this book you will be craving a handsome-as-sin, cowboy with a mission to please too. 😂 😇

The concept of a second-chance romance enthralls me for some reason.

I suppose it is because I love to root for a couple who seem to have insurmountable odds stacked against them from the very start.

And trust me when I say that you will cheer for this couple–HARD!

I refer to Unstable as a “second chance” romance because it highlights the relationship of Henley and Keaton, childhood friends and neighbors who loved to “hate” one another as they were growing up. Henley receives a devastating phone call that leaves her reeling and forces her to return to the hometown that she abandoned eight years prior after an unspeakable tragedy.

I guess you can call me a wuss, because I was crying within the first 20% of this book.

Still, I kept reading…

And it was SO worth it.

When it comes to Unstable, please note that I hate to use the term “love-hate” relationship because of all that implies in terms of romance novels.  Instead,  I see this novel as a chronicling of a couple who experience loss and love and rediscover their way back to each other on their mutual paths to maturity.

Henley and Keaton’s odyssey from friends to lovers is beautifully breathtaking.

In fact, SE Hall has created a story that is so touching, stunning and poignant that I had to sit in my nook with a cup of hot tea and simply sigh in satisfaction as I was finishing up this book.

Unstable soothed me like that cup of hot tea; it washed over me and created a refreshing feeling of warmth, comfort and contentment that left the bookworm in me gratified and the woman in me fulfilled.

This book is charming, riveting, heart-rending and freeing.

Henley and Keaton’s love story is about earning trust and overcoming the demons from our past that prevent us from truly living and moving forward toward a better future.

It is about redemption and liberation from the sentiments that hold us back from achieving emotional progress and discovering true happiness in life and love along the way.

Unstable is absolutely wonderful.

Wildly romantic and thrilling.

Uplifting and inspirational.

It has the heart-stopping romance and incredibly hot sex scenes that will make you remember reading this book for a very long time.

Unstable also contains themes surrounding friendship, grief, angst and loss. It is the perfect balance of lovable characters, excellent writing and life lessons that will make you stop and think.

There are also twists and turns, surprises in the plot that left me wide-eyed and dumbfounded.

To be honest I do not have the words to adequately describe my experience with Unstable and the gamut of emotions that I experienced while I consumed the incredible gift that SE Hall has bestowed upon  us.

Few novels have moved me like Unstable did.

Please read this remarkably stirring, invigorating exploration of the triumph of the human spirit and the boundless power of love.

You will not be disappointed.

That is my final word.

After eight years, Henley Calvert is headed home. Back to the family farm and small town she left behind, never to be thought of again.

Too much regret and shame to bear.

But she’s the only one left to see to her family’s legacy, so she must return to Ashfall and face all the ghosts that haunt her.

Gatlin Holt, the family farmhand, awaits her arrival, and lends a hand—in more ways than one.

He reacquaints Henley with the lay of the land while helping her heal her soul with a new
outlook on life.

Yet every time she thinks some peace may be within reach, Henley hits another roadblock. The biggest of which is Keaton Cash—her childhood nemesis who owns the farm next door.

And no, it’s not a love triangle. That’s impossible when Henley’s heart is closed, incapable of love.

“No, Keaton. I was bored and thought I’d come play ‘tag’ with ‘em for a little while.”

“Then you’re doing a helluva job, ‘cause they’re fixin’ to tag ya back.”

What’s he blathering about now? I turn and look…but refuse to sigh or show any sign of

defeat…that some of the cows, are in fact, wandering back into the field I just shooed them out of.

Really? I seem to remember—open the gate to where the food is—they’ll go. So why they’re not cooperating now, in what has to be the first time since Noah let two of them on the Arc, has to be some weird conspiracy just to embarrass me in front of Keaton.

“Let me help you,” he says too kindly, moving to do so before I can refuse.

He uses his hat to swipe at the few remaining anarchist cows, sending them on their way. And Lord knows why, but I take a moment to peruse him…see just exactly how he turned out, physically anyway.

Hair still as black as the Stetson in his hand, jeans still as tight as he’s always played his cards to his chest. Every movement precise and purposeful, nothing wasted, just like he’s always been:

good at everything.

Except recognizing value in the most valuable.

Back in the day, he’d been the boy to watch. A football star, a rodeo champ…and watch them they did—every girl in town.
